Minnesota Varsity

We’re pleased to announce the 2019 Minnesota Varsity Featured Round Artists and Composers! The Featured Artists’ performances will be recorded next month in MPR’s state-of-the-art studio for consideration as Showcase Artists this spring, and two Showcase Composers will be selected from the Featured Composers to have their compositions premiered. The Minnesota Varsity Showcase Concert will take place at Ted Mann Concert Hall on Saturday May 11, 2019 and will be broadcast live throughout the MPR listening region and via ClassicalMPR.org.

The 2019 Minnesota Varsity Featured Artists are:

• Charlie Gannon, alto saxophone – Mendota Heights, Minn.
• Beatrice Grant, piano – Waconia, Minn.
• Elizabeth Kleiber, flute – Hudson, Wisc.
• Lauren Senden, voice – North Mankato, Minn.
• Emma Taggart, piano – Blaine, Minn.
• Ingrid Tverberg, cello – Owatonna, Minn.
• Jackson Wittenberg, guitar – St. Paul, Minn.
• Shuen Wu, piano – Woodbury, Minn.
• Honorable Mention: Ethan Rich, marimba – Roseville, Minn.

The 2019 Minnesota Varsity Featured Composers are:

• Daniel Fleury – Rochester, Minn.
• Ian Handeland – Dayton, Minn.
• Sam Hanson – St. Paul, Minn.
• Josiah Parsons – Crystal, Minn.
• Daniel Pryke – Minneapolis, Minn.

Minnesota Varsity’s ninth season drew submissions from communities throughout the Classical MPR listening region. Many thanks to everyone who entered - you’re now part of the Minnesota Varsity Team!

*All* 2019 entrants can extend their Varsity experience - whether or not they’ve advanced to the Featured round - via Minnesota Varsity Team Challenges. Entrants are receiving information about these fun contests and opportunities.

The 2019 Featured Artists’ studio recordings will be posted in March, when you’ll have the chance to vote for one of them to advance to the Showcase!
