Minnesota Varsity’s 10th Season Features Scholarships for High School Musicians
In honor of our tenth season of Minnesota Varsity, and thanks to the generosity of Minnesota Varsity donors, we will grant a total of $10,000 in scholarship awards, divided equally among up to 40 of this year's entrants. Each of the recipients will be awarded at least $250. These individuals, selected from the total number of entrants, will be considered by judges for inclusion in the Featured Round, regardless of whether they ultimately are selected as Featured Artists or Composers. (The Featured Round number will remain as follows: no more than 15 instrumental and vocal Featured Artists, and 5 Featured Composers.)
Award recipients will be notified by e-mail no later than January 15, 2020.
Minnesota Varsity seeks to encourage and support music study, participation, and performance among high-school-age youth and to help foster music as a lifelong activity and pleasure, regardless of career choice. With this season’s scholarship awards, Classical MPR is pleased to extend the benefit of participation in Minnesota Varsity beyond the Featured (semifinalist) level of the competition.
Educational Sponsor Scholarships, a ten-year tradition
Three of Minnesota Public Radio’s Educational Sponsors will offer music scholarships to all Minnesota Varsity Featured Artists and Composers. Concordia College and The College of St. Scholastica will present $6,000 for each of four years of attendance, and Luther College will present $7,000 per year of four years’ attendance, to every Featured Artist and Composer who enrolls at those colleges. We're grateful for the commitment these institutions of higher education make to our Minnesota Varsity musicians.
