Annie Lennox stands up to climate change with Purcell's 'Dido's Lament'

Scottish singer-songwriter Annie Lennox, known as part of the British pop duo Eurythmics, has just released a recording of Henry Purcell's "Dido's Lament" to create awareness about the global climate crisis. The song, performed with the London City Voices, also aims to raise funds for Greenpeace.

"As a long-term supporter of Greenpeace," she says in the description for the song's video, "I am deeply concerned by the global climate crisis, which I feel is the most urgent challenge we all have to face, particularly with regard to sustainability for future generations. I very much hope to be able to make a contribution by drawing attention towards this vital issue."

She added her concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Additionally, I feel a tremendous sense of empathy and concern for everyone who has lost a dearly beloved friend or family member this year and hope this recording can offer a moment of shared collective mourning for those whose lives have been taken."

Watch her performance of "Dido's Lament" now.
