Watch: Italians fill empty streets with beautiful song during lockdown

From Siena to Naples, quarantined Italians have been throwing open their windows and singing from balconies to lift up community spirit during the coronavirus outbreak. The government placed all 60 million citizens on lockdown as part of an effort to slow the spread of the virus, which has already killed more than 1,000 people in the country.

Videos posted on social media show neighbors banding together in joyous singalongs of folk songs, popular ballads and the Italian national anthem. Watch a montage of these clips from the Guardian.
