Thank you for joining us for the unforgettable Juneteenth Solidarity Sing for Black Lives, when we all sang, played or spoke the words and music of the National Black Anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing" at the same time.
Presenters included Justice Choir, Chorus America, Justice Choir DC, SongRise, ChoirBuzz, and Sister Cities Girlchoir. Classical Minnesota Public Radio, YourClassical and the Choral Stream were honored to promote and co-host this special event.
In support of the event, organizer Nikki Nesbary did an interview with Classical MPR. Listen using the audio player above.
She also produced a video, with the services of Jason Dixson Photography, in which she and fellow Washington, D.C.-based a cappella singers performed "Lift Every Voice and Sing" in front of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Watch now.
From organizer Nikki Nesbary:
Black people and supporters are in the streets of the United States calling for an end to police violence against Black bodies and an end to more than 400 years of white supremacy.
On Juneteenth 2020 (Friday, June 19), we called on singers, musicians and those who believe in justice to lift every voice, every instrument and every heart to raise the collective global consciousness and demand real societal change.
