Mallory McHenry is the first harpist to appear in Performance Today's Young Artist in Residence Program. She is a doctoral student at the University of Texas in Austin where she also obtained her Master of Music in Harp Performance in 2018. Her dissertation research is focused on taking the works of female composers of color and transcribing them for solo harp.
McHenry has been a member of such ensembles as the Omaha Area Youth Symphony, the Eastern Music Festival Orchestras and the University of Alabama Wind Ensemble among others. She regularly performs with both the Austin Civic and Valley Symphony Orchestras during their performance seasons. In February of 2018, McHenry was an artist with Challenge The Stats, a non-profit organization in Atlanta, Georgia that provides educational workshops and an annual concert series in an effort to advocate for diversity, inclusion and equity in the classical performing arts.
Currently, McHenry works for the Austin District Music Teachers Association and runs her own private studio, McHenry Suzuki Studio where she provides both harp and piano lessons to students of any age.
McHenry obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Oakwood University, a Historically Black University in Huntsville, Alabama, where she was the university's first harpist graduate in 2016.
