Why do you love to perform?
Music performance is an exhilarating experience. I love the feeling of bringing joy to a room full of people, particularly when I am performing a piece they have never heard, or when they are hearing classical saxophone music for the first time. My goals as a musician are to study classical saxophone, jazz, and music education so that I can combine my love for performance in multiple genres with my passion for helping and teaching others. I would also like to devote my time and energy to making more music, particularly the chamber works originally composed for string instruments, available for saxophone by transcribing and arranging these works for saxophone soloists and quartets. I chose this particular piece to perform because it was one of the first significant classical works created specifically for the saxophone. Composed in 1860, Jules Demersseman's Fantaisie Sur Un Theme Original was written only 20 years after the invention of the saxophone, and is considered by many to be the first "masterpiece" composed for saxophone. This piece demonstrates the versatility of the instrument, and allows the performer to demonstrate technical virtuosity while also allowing for lyrical expression. It is, quite simply, a beautiful piece of music.
