This year, the Upper Midwest Flute Association will invite a "world flutist," Grammy winner Rhonda Larson, as its guest artist for Flute Fest 2018 on Saturday in Minneapolis.

Born and raised in the mountains of Montana, Larson was shaped into a nature-loving, free spirit, as well as a trailblazing artist, by the Big Sky Country of the Wild West. She came to the attention of the flute-playing world when she won the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition at 22. Later, she joined the Paul Winter Consort and launched a career like no other.

Larson will present a program about ethnic flutes and then play them in a concert experience called "Winds of the World."

"My first priority is to artistic authenticity, hoping to better serve the odds of lifting people's hearts," she says. "That is why I am a musician."

I will also be involved at Flute Fest, offering a class on publishing and recording your own music, as well as narrating a concert of my arrangements of music from Argentina. It's called "A Little Tango in Her Blood" and features flutist Paula Gudmundson (listen to interview above) and Tracy Lipke-Perry. This concert takes place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7.
