Rose Ensemble instrument demos

Rose Ensemble artistic director and tenor Jordan Sramek and mezzo-soprano Alyssa Anderson sat down with Julie Amacher to chat about the group's experience in Twin Cities schools as a Class Notes Artist.

Members of the Rose Ensemble presented a program of music of "The Three Faiths": Judaism, Christianity and Islam. They featured instruments from the Middle East and languages such as Ladino (spoken by Sephardic Jews), Latin and Arabic. You can hear the ensemble members demonstrate their instruments by clicking the player above.

The pieces performed in the performance chat are:

  • Traditional Sephardic: Cuando 'l Rey Nimrod

  1. 12th C. Chant: Cives Celestis

  1. Trad. Sufi melody: Sallatu Allah

Jordan Sramek said that given the diversity of Minnesota, "It's been exciting for us to be able to bring this music and a story of a kind of common denominator in a positive way, has been really inspiring for us."
