Piece: Arnold Schoenberg — Three Pieces, Op.11 (1 and 3)
Why did you choose this piece?
I first learned Sechs kleine Klavierstucke, Op. 19 (or Six Little Piano Pieces) by Schoenberg and loved it. So my professor thought it's good idea to continue with Schoenberg Op.11. The music sounds very different from other works such as Mozart or Chopin. I have been playing classical piano pieces since I was 6. When I play Schoenberg, I see different things. I can feel that I am dancing with the motions and emotions that you can often see from contemporary dances. Sometimes, the way he arranged the keys just seemed strange. But come out very beautifully and expressive. The op.11 No1 is called "Massig (at a moderate speed)" and no.3 "Bewegt (with motion)". They are not long pieces but they show different styles when I put them into a program with other popular classical and romantic pieces. I don't know how many people know about Schoenberg and his work. So I want to share it with more people.
