Hometown: Marshall, Minn.
Piece: Edward Elgar — Cello Concerto, Op.85, I. Adagio
Why did you choose this piece?
I chose to play this piece because it is very engaging to listen to. The first time I heard it, I absolutely fell in love and knew that I had to learn it. There is a beautiful theme that gets repeated a few times throughout the movement. Many people think that repetitiveness is boring, but I try to make each repetition unique by changing the phrasing and expression. Another reason why this movement stands out to me is because it allows me to express so many emotions, such as mysteriousness, sadness, and triumph.
