Wagner in Minnesota: A history

Saint Paul Auditorium
Vintage postcard showing the interior of the old Saint Paul Auditorium on West 5th Street where the Metropolitan Opera staged 'Tannhauser' in 1907 and 'Lohengrin' in 1910. Local favorite Olive Fremstad sang the roles of Venus in 'Tannhauser' and Elsa in 'Lohengrin' in those performances. Fremstad was the inspiration for Thea Kronborg, the heroine of Willa Cather's novel 'The Song of the Lark.'
