This week's Choral Featured Album is "Wandering Heart" from Vancouver-based Chor Leoni Men's Choir. In addition to treasured works by Morten Lauridsen, Felix Mendelssohn and others, the album showcases five world premiere recordings. The record's title piece, "Wandering Heart," is a set of three songs by Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds.
Esenvalds' "Wandering Hearts" song cycle takes its texts from poetry of the late Leonard Cohen, the acclaimed singer, songwriter, and poet. Esenvalds explains, "My cycle of three songs to words of Leonard Cohen has become, in the voices of Chor Leoni and through the hands of Erick Lichte, like a symphony with a true orchestral, multi-dimensional depth."
