Piece: Roger Quilter — Go, lovely rose
Why did you choose this piece?
I chose "Go, lovely rose" by Roger Quilter because of the poetry within the song and then because of the musical composition. As a poem by Edmund Waller (1506-1687) "Go, lovely rose" is powerful and yet tender at the same time. As a musical arrangement, "Go, lovely rose" takes on new depth and meaning, while staying true to the original content of the poem. It is a piece that challenges me to sing artistically and tenderly, and to still maintain the power behind the composition. It is a song that I love to perform.
