Piece: Jones and Schmidt — Much More (from the musical "The Fantasticks")

Why did you choose this piece?

The piece I chose is "Much More" from The Fantasticks. It is the song that introduces the character of Luisa, a sixteen year old hopeless romantic that is obsessed with drama and wants to be special. I chose this piece because I love to sing it and feel that Luisa's character fits well with my voice, but more importantly, because I relate to the song a lot. I see a lot of similarities between Luisa and myself. I definitely relate with her in wanting more and with wanting to be special, as I think most teenage girls can. I especially love the second half of the song and the line "I want much more than keeping house," as I myself want to do more than being a wife. I connect with Luisa's ambition and dreams, which makes the song all the more enjoyable for me to sing and easier for me to convey the emotions.
