School Spotlight: Stillwater Wind Symphony

Rachmaninoff -- Italian Polka

The Stillwater Band Program has a nearly 90 year history of being one of the oldest and most successful band programs in the upper Midwest. Encompassing both concert and jazz groups, these ensembles have won numerous awards at home and across the United States. The Wind Symphony, for example, is in its sixty-fifth straight year of superior ratings at state contest. Made up of sophomore through senior students, this ensemble was selected to perform at the prestigious Music for All National Concert Band Festival in 2014. This coming spring they will travel to Washington DC to play on the Kennedy Center stage for the John Phillip Sousa Festival.

Though he has been a director at Stillwater for over a quarter of the band program's existence, Mr. Dennis Lindsay still seeks to create a "eureka" moment for his students every single day. "Seeing that discovery and love of this art is what makes it all worthwhile," he says. "Teaching music is the most rewarding job anyone could wish to have. Many thanks to the Stillwater community and my wonderful studesnts who make every day special!"
