Talk about a dual nature! A prime example is the Snow Maiden. Her mother is Spring Beauty. Her father is Grandfather Frost. Two competing temperature curves in one pretty package.

But the Snow Maiden doesn't have to worry too much about this duality, as long as she stays put in Fairyland. Fat chance! She's 15. She wants to roam and explore the unknown world of people and experience the unknown emotion of love.

Try to tell a teenager "no." So, in a very brief period, about the length of one opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, the Snow Maiden completes her bucket list.

She pays a very high price to get what she wants, but the real world, which has been in the grip of a 15-year long winter, is not too broken up about it.
