Farmer's markets: they just keep growing and growing!
The St. Paul and Minneapolis farmer's markets both provide a great selection of foods in convenient, downtown locations (note: the Thursday downtown Minneapolis farmer's market moved to Hennepin Avenue due to construction on Nicollet Mall).
A few years ago, it was trendy for 'mini-markets' to operate in area neighborhoods. The Kingfield and Fulton markets in south Minneapolis, for example, started as relatively small operations with just a few vendors. For each of them, it seems like their parking lots are always full to capacity!
It's a great mix of fresh produce, which of course is the heart of the market, but also lots of value-added agricultural products and handcrafts. In early spring, for example, Rachel discovered some Honeycrisp apple chips that were so delicious, she was okay waiting several months until the fresh apple crop came in.
If you're hungry right in the moment, there are lots of prepared foods in the area: Arrowwood Coffee Roasters, Chef Shack (get a bison burger!), and Patisserie 46.
