Moveable Feast: New ballpark for the St. Paul Saints

Moveable Feast: New ballpark for the St. Paul Saints

If you want to eat in the Lowertown area of St. Paul, there are of course a number of favorite establishments — Tanpopo, Barrio, etc. — but there are also a few recently established hotspots to check out.

A new restaurant called Public Kitchen & Bar opened this past winter. It's great historic building, with exposed brick and big timber beams, and a lovely view of Mears Park. Its menu features modern takes on classic dishes: steaks, salads, and pastas. They make a delicious cheeseburger with Bourbon-glazed bacon and jalapeño jam — likely better and cheaper than what's available through the new park concessions!

At Heartland, usually we think of fancy prix fix dinner, but the bar menu has some traditional ballpark fare: burgers (including lamb, pork, and veal varieties), plus fried cheese curds with spicy apricot catsup and a smoked kielbasa corn dog.
