Composer Hans Zimmer has shared an image of a vinyl release of the soundtrack to last year's ambitious science fiction film Interstellar. A gatefold sleeve will feature an image from the film — and, as Zimmer notes, the April 14 release will come just in time for Record Store Day (April 18).
As Garrett Tiedemann notes, Hans Zimmer may be the most influential film composer working today. His Oscar-nominated score for Interstellar centers on organ — and not a synthesized organ, despite the longtime predilection for synthesized music among composers of sci-fi scores.
The high anticipation for the score's vinyl release is part of a vinyl boom that started in indie rock and is now spreading to classical music and film music. Meanwhile, Zimmer is already on to his next project, which is far-out in a different way: he's scoring boxing matches.
