Defying gravity: A dancer speaks

Michael Robins

St Paul native Michael Robins was in junior high school when he and a few buddies started their own movie company. Highland Theater of the Square made silent movies with a borrowed super 8 camera. All the neighborhood kids served as extras. It was fun.

After studying dance and mime in Paris, Robins returned to the Twin Cities and founded the Illusion Theater. The company is celebrating its 40 season! Michael Robins is an artist and a businessman. His stories and his playlist take center stage in this week's Music with Minnesotans.

Gershwin: An American in Paris (excerpt) with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Levine. DG 431 625

Copland: "Hoedown" from Rodeo with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas. RCA 63511
