On today's episode of Learning to Listen, you'll hear from brothers, sisters, mothers and sons who perform together.

The Assad Brothers have played together for more than 40 years. Gil Shaham and his sister, Orli, paired up for a recording — although they usually record projects independently from one another.

I often wonder if Bach Sr. would've made recordings with his sons, or if Leopold and Wolfgang Mozart might've released recordings of their European tours. Maybe Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn would've released recordings of their salon concerts?

No matter, because the earliest recording you'll hear on today's Learning to Listen comes from 1988, in which Christoph von Dohnanyi conducts music his grandfather, Ernst, wrote in 1914.
