As the fall inches toward winter, the grilling season is coming to a close, but fortunately you can eat steak at two new splashy eateries.
The first is 6Smith in Wayzata. It has a gorgeous rooftop deck, and that means it's best visited in summertime, but the interior also has a lovely view of the lake. The owner was the longtime general manager of Manny's, so he has plenty of steakhouse experience. Chef JP Samuelson serves the standard filet mignon and New York strip, but also lesser-known cuts such as flat-iron steak, in addition to burgers and seafood

At Libertine in Uptown, chef Tim McKee, of La Belle Vie fame, created the menu for the Parasole Restaurant Group as a younger, hipper steakhouse alternative to its Manny's and Pittsburgh Blue concepts. The menu is Uptown-appropriate, including pig ear (which is actually good), and bone marrow (which comes with a shot of whiskey, provided you drink it using the empty bone as a funnel). The steaks are lesser-known cuts that run in the $20-range — they're no porterhouse, but they have a better flavor and texture than you'd expect a steak in that price range to have.
