Learning to Listen: Music for the State Fair

Learning to Listen: State Fair
state fair streetcar arch gate entry
The State Fair arch was built in 1934 and formerly stood at the streetcar entrance to the fair. It is now located at the transit hub near the new West End Market, on the northwest corner of the fairgrounds.

The Minnesota State Fair is the largest state fair in the country in terms of daily attendance.

Aside from a handful of unpreventable interruptions, like the Civil War and a polio outbreak, Minnesotans have traveled to the State Fair since 1859. On today's Learning to Listen, hear music inspired by the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

On today's Learning to Listen, hear musical memories about the fair from some Classical MPR hosts, as well as music inspired by the fair.

Each weekday at 2 p.m., you can enjoy a live performance at the Classical MPR booth at the corner of Judson and Nelson. You can also subscribe to our State Fair music newsletter, which is sent every day of the 12-day celebration.
