Class Notes: A Recipe for Emotion in Music

What tools do composers use to evoke emotions in music? This video will help teachers and students learn different techniques to help make music come alive.

Music is an especially powerful medium for communicating both specific as well as ambiguous or "mixed" emotional states. Compared with many visual and literary arts, music prompts responses in us that can be relatively difficult to identify and articulate.

Teachers can use this video — and the curriculum linked below — to help teach Minnesota Music Standard 4.1.3.3.2: Describe how music communicates meaning.
