Morning Glories: May Flowers

Cheryl Taylor for MPR

Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.

April showers bring May flowers, they say. So now that we're into the month of May, we'll bring you these five timely Morning Glories. Let's hope they're as welcome as flowers that bloom in the spring!

Monday

Françaix: The Floral Clock
Some flowers open in the morning, some in the afternoon — plant them all, and you'll have a floral clock.

Tuesday

Falla: Nights in the Gardens of Spain
The gardens evoked here are rich in Spanish atmosphere and rhythm.

Wednesday

Sibelius: The Flowers
Sibelius could write both massive symphonies, and miniatures, like these pieces for piano.

Thursday

Rodrigo: Music for a Garden
Garden music by the composer of the Concierto de Aranjuez.

Friday

Peterson-Berger: Flowers from Frösö
These "flowers" are musical memories of Frösö, a Swedish island where the composer had a home.
