Peter Kogan was only a college student when George Szell tapped him for the percussion section of the Cleveland Orchestra.
Maybe being so young and making it so big causes one to wonder what else can one do. And that's likely what brought Peter to New York City to begin another music career as a jazz drummer.
Fast forward many years and we see Peter Kogan as the Principal Timpanist of the Minnesota Orchestra. This has been a tough 14 months, but with this other talent and passion, Peter has used his time to write charts, play gigs and record a CD.
It's quite a weekend for Peter playing with his fellow musicians and former Minn Orch Music Director Eiji Oue in a couple fo Tchaikovsky concerts, then turn around and play sets at the Dakota on Monday.
Try and catch at least one. This is one fine musician!
