Moveable Feast: All things British

For our new weekly feature, "Moveable Feast," Rachel Hutton of Minnesota Monthly joins John Birge to talk about where to go and what to eat in destinations Classical MPR listeners may be interested in visiting.

This week, Rachel and John are talking about all things British, in honor of the Guthrie's new production of Pride and Prejudice (through August 21.)

Afternoon Tea

Quaint, charming, antique-filled tea rooms include Lady Elegant's in St. Paul, Avalon Tea Room in White Bear Lake, and The Mad Hatter Tea Room in Anoka.

For those who prefer their afternoon tea sans antiques, The Saint Paul Hotel in St. Paul offers an elegant afternoon tea service as well.

Doily-free Zone

For British food with a little bit less Victorian elegance, be sure to check out Brit's Pub in Minneapolis - the scotch eggs are a favorite. If you're in the mood for a pub experience, The Anchor Fish and Chips is well known for — you guessed it — their fish and chips! Also, George and The Dragon is a great place for British-inspired pub food that is at once traditional and inventive.

Other favorite local British foods include the pasties at Potter's Pasties, a food truck with a newly opened restaurant near the University of Minnesota.
