For our new weekly feature, "Moveable Feast," Rachel Hutton of Minnesota Monthly joins John Birge to talk about where to go and what to eat in destinations Classical MPR listeners may be interested in visiting.

This week, Rachel and John are talking about what to see and eat in Winona, Minnesota during the Beethoven Festival (through July 23) and Great River Shakespeare festival, (through August 4th).

Downtown Sites

Consider a self-guided architecture tour, Winona features beautiful buildings, including the Winona National Bank building with Tiffany glass windows. There's also the Watkins Co. Museum, and a stellar Minnesota Marine Art Museum with a collection of nautical paintings, plus works by Renoir, Van Gogh and Picasso.

Dining

The doughnuts at Bloedow's (pronounced Blay-doh's) Bakery are worth a stop, and the attention to detail at Signatures Restaurant makes the experience worth while.

Accommodations

There are quite a few B&Bs, including: Carriage House, Alexander Mansion, and Windom Park.

Travel:

Consider taking the Amtrak Empire Builder train from St. Paul, traveling along the gorgeous river bluffs.

Rachel Hutton covers food and travel at Minnesota Monthly.
