Kirsten Broberg: composer gets her big break

Kirsten Broberg; composer gets big break
Kirsten Broberg
Kirsten Broberg's music explores the concept of time and space by highlighting transformations of timbre, texture and varying levels of resonance. Sounds emerge from the most fragile to tremendously complex, but always breathtakingly beautiful.
Leslie Crane

Her music has been described as haunting, stunning, and picturesque even ineffable. It casts a spell on us that leaves time behind, taking us into a different kind of present, a different kind of now.

And sadly for us - but a huge boost for her career - Kirsten Broberg will be packing up her scores and moving south to Denton Texas to begin a tenure track Assistant Professorship at one of the finest music schools in the country, the University of North Texas.

Kirsten has joined me today for a little exit interview, to listen to music and to discuss what it means to be a 21st century composer.

And that includes how she teaches the creative art of composing, helping young musicians find their voice - and also how she keeps learning as a creative artist herself including heading to France this summer to study with some of the best in the spectral music movement.
