Tune in at 8 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2013, for an encore broadcast of 'Turandot', the final production from the Minnesota Opera's 50th anniversary season.

Adam Laurence Herskowitz, playing Calaf in the Minnesota Opera's production of Turandot, took the express from Newark to the Metropolitan Opera, with one quick stop — to change his voice!

Growing up in Livingston, N.J., Herskowitz was only 30 miles away from the Metropolitan Opera, though it could have been on another planet for a boy who didn't like opera. But he loved music, went to Indiana and Illinois for a degree in music education, and came back to New Jersey to teach schoolkids in Newark. Thanks to prompting from his wife and his voice teacher, he changed from teacher to baritone, then from baritone to tenor. And in record time, he found himself singing at the Met!

Adam Laurence Herskowitz found his way to Classical MPR to tell John Birge about his amazing path, and to sing "Nessun dorma," the signature tenor aria in Minnesota Opera's 2013 production of Puccini's Turandot.

Plus, watch a subtitled video of Herskowitz's performance as Calaf below.
