Did you play an instrument when you were a kid? Well if you did, you know that feeling of getting all excited about making music only to show up to band practice and play a piece that bored you or didn't challenge you or just plain made no sense. Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Puts understands.

Music educators -- specifically band instructors -- are putting out a call: there needs to be fresh new music for bands to play. Kevin Puts is among those who've answered, teaming up with the American Composers Forum.

The American Composers Forum has been involved in one of the coolest projects for young music-makers. It's called BandQuest, and it's all about putting some new energy behind music for kids.

And the music is written by the best-of-the-best today, like my guest who popped into the studio this morning: Pulitzer-prize winning composer Kevin Puts.
