The Nutcracker is the most popular ballet in the United States. But it took a number of years to become that. In fact, even Tchaikovsky considered it one of his least successful efforts. It was premiered to little notice at St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre in 1892 and didn't make it to the US until the 1940's. Since then, it's become one of the most popular pieces of classical music.
This week for our Morning Glories segment, we're digging a little deeper into the P.I. Tchaikovsky repertoire. If you love the Nutcracker Suite, tune-in at 10 a.m. weekdays on Dec. 26-30 to hear these additional works you'll be sure to enjoy.
