A "hoolerie" is a style of Midwestern Polka that features the clarinet in the highest registers; those piercing, laughing registers that are unique to the instrument.

Clarinetist David Shea relishes the chance to show off that unhinged sound in a piece he performed with his colleagues, cellist, Pablo Mahave-Veglia and pianist, Paulina Zamora.

The group calls itself Trio Montecino and was featured recently on the chamber music series at the North Dakota Museum of Art in Grand Forks.

Their performance at the North Dakota Museum of Art in Grand Forks of "Meditation and Hoolerie" by Minnesota native Michael Wittgraf is in this week's Regional Spotlight.
