We're pleased to bring you the complete recording of the 2019 Minnesota Varsity Showcase Concert. The artistry, skill, and dedication of these young musicians will assure you that the future of classical music is in good hands!
The 2019 Showcase Artists were featured first. Pianist Emma Taggart opened the program with Frédéric Chopin's Étude Op. 25, No. 12 "Ocean." Flutist Elizabeth Kleiber followed with Fanmi Imèn. Next was pianist Bea Grant, with Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 in C# minor. Singer Lauren Senden performed Cécile Chaminade's L'été. Finally, pianist Shuen Wu performed No. 11 of Elf Humoresken by Jörg Widmann.
Closing the concert, the 2019 Showcase Composers' new works were performed: Daniel Fleury's Paraphrases (performed by Mary Alice Hutton, violin, and Hocheol Shin, cello), and Ian Handeland's Fields Red (performed by Hutton and Shin, along with pianist Irina Stene).
