Moveable Feast: Discovering Minnesota tourism tidbits

Moveable Feast: Discover Minnesota

There's a new feature in Minnesota Monthly called "Discover MN," and it's about new things to see and do around the state, for locals and tourists alike.

In Bemidji, the famed marathon runner Dick Beardsley (who tied for first place in the 1981 London Marathon) recently opened a B&B, and he's a big fisherman who likes to offer tips to guests.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, if you're in the Chisholm area, an event company is putting a giant 1,000-foot slip-and-slide (with a padded rubber bottom) down one of its main streets. In the southeast of Minnesota, if you've ever heard the beautiful bell music in downtown Rochester, it's actually coming from the state's largest carillon — a rare, centuries-old instrument played like an organ. This spring, Rochester got a new, 24-year-old carillonneur, Austin Ferguson, who plays everything from Bach to Lady GaGa.
