We've talked about good Irish joints in the past, but this year for St. Patrick's Day, we decided to focus on fish and chips. Over the past year or two, we've seen a few new places open that offer tasty versions of this classic dish.
Dan Kelly's in downtown Minneapolis was purchased by the guys behind Republic a few years ago, and they gave it a nice upgrade. It has a nice, cozy vibe compared to some of the other Irish joints downtown, and good fish and chips.
Another good new place to check out is the Brooks High food truck — I caught it at Tattersall and thought the batter and frying were perfectly delicate.
Another longtime gem is Mac's Fish / Chips / Strips. It's a no-frills place in St. Paul and their fish and chips are terrific. They have a newer location in Tangletown that's as good as the original and they make their own saltwater taffy — seems strange, but it's delicious!
