Flicks in Five: Guys and Dolls

Flicks in Five: Guys and Dolls

According to the American Film Institute, Guys and Dolls is considered one of the greatest movie musicals of all time.

The movie is based on Frank Loesser's Broadway musical, and stars Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine (who originated the stage role of Adelaide).

Right from the beginning of the story, we get a handle on that characteristic accent of Damon Runyon, who wrote the two short stories on which the movie is based — "The Idyll Of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure."

On this week's Flicks in Five, we're going to hear how it all begins — Stubby Kaye (reprising his Broadway role for the film) and the song "Fugue for Tinhorns."
