Man Behind the Dream: Bayard Rustin

Bayard Rustin

Martin Luther King Jr.'s shadow looms large--so large that the names of some of his close colleagues in the civil rights movement remain unheralded. Bayard Rustin is not a household name today, but he was the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington. In addition to his work as an activist, Rustin was a musician, an art collector and an athlete.

A new narrated song cycle tells the life story of Bayard Rustin. It's called The Man Behind the Dream by composer Steve Milloy. Performance Today contributor Robin Washington reported on the details.
