Minnesota Monthly has chosen its Best New Restaurants for 2016 (drumroll please):
• Upton 43 is a sleek, sophisticated experimental Scandinavian restaurant in Linden Hills — cutting edge technique, but familiar flavors.
• Hi-Lo Diner is a restored 1950s diner moved from Pennsylvania to East Lake Street serving modern diner fare. Their signature dish is the "Hi-Top" which is basically an unfrosted donut that can then be topped with sweets or savories.
• St. Genevieve is the sister restaurant to Tilia, with a great neighborhood vibe, French fare, and sparkling wines.
• Xavi is another neighborhood place that's worth driving across town for, offering new American fare that pulls flavors from around the globe.
• One winner in St. Paul this year: Mucci's, sister restaurant to the Strip Club Meat and Fish, offers homey-but-upscale Italian fare, from handmade pastas to deep-fried pizza!
