Moveable Feast: Mall of America

Moveable Feast: Mall of America

If you're shopping at the Mall of America, you're going to need fuel, and there are a few new restaurants to check out.

First, there's a duo of much-hyped casual-haute burger concepts: the first Minnesota location of Shake Shack, from top NYC restaurateur Danny Meyer, and its apparent local copy, Burger Burger, by the team behind Crave. Both use locally sourced meat and do solid burgers — the choice between the two probably comes down to what you prefer for 'extras'. For example, Shake Shack uses frozen custard in its shakes, but Burger Burger has a full bar, so you can spike your shake if you want. Teasing out the differences seems like a good excuse to try both!

For an upscale dining experience, try Cedar + Stone. Sure, you can see Ikea out the window, but it's a very pretty dining room and bar. They have fancy cocktails and a seasonally driven menu that sources many ingredients from local farms. Dishes range from kale salad to braised beef short ribs to gourmet mac 'n cheese. One of the nicest restaurants south of 494 and it's at the mall!
