Moveable Feast: Anoka, Halloween Capital of the World

Moveable Feast: Halloween

Anoka, Minn. — the "Halloween Capital of the World."

Who knew, right? It's the self-proclaimed capital, but they do have a huge annual Halloween parade to justify the name.

Here's where to eat if you don't fill up on Tootsie Rolls being tossed from a float. If you're in the mood for sweets, the old-timey Hans' Bakery makes something called a "Bee-Hive," which is a sort of custard-filled pastry sandwich.

You can also check out the newer Swedish Crown Bakery, where you can find all sorts of cardamom-flavored goodies.

If you're trying to cut back on sweets, go for high tea at the Mad Hatter — a historic mansion that's one of the few places you can still get traditional tea (with the mini pastries and finger sandwiches).
