Moveable Feast: Walker

Moveable Feast: Walker

Walker, Minn., on Leech Lake, has long been a prime fishing destination, especially for walleye and muskie. But the area has great trails, too. The town is at the nexus of two of the state's best bike trails and one of Minnesota Monthly's writers was up there recently to check things out.

There are lots of varied terrain with lakes and forests, and plenty of small towns along the way. One of his pit stops was in Dorset, Minn., which is the self-proclaimed restaurant capital of the world. Rachel was up there a few years ago and discovered that it's able to claim the most restaurants per capita because its population is only about 20 people!

The "downtown" is just a small strip of shops and restaurants that almost look almost like a movie set in the Old West. There's a Mexican place, a pizza joint, and a great place for broasted chicken.

Beyond Dorset, a few other spots to refuel are The Piggy (specializing in BBQ), and a surprisingly authentic Thai place called Udom's.
