Age: 23

Hometown: Thief River Falls, Minn.

Attends: Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio

I am now in my first year of graduate studies, pursuing a Masters in Music Composition at Bowling Green State University, studying under Dr. Mikel Kuehn with an assistantship teaching Aural Skills. I graduated from Concordia College last spring with a degree in Theory/Composition as a student of Dr. Steve Makela, Dr. Rene Clausen, and Dr. Jay Hershberger. I am also a freelance composer and have enjoyed several wonderful collaborative opportunities this past year. Last August, I was selected as one of the four composers for the VocalEssence ReMix program and I am working alongside composer Libby Larsen on two choral pieces for a premiere at the national American Choral Directors Association conference in March 2017, which is a phenomenal opportunity, as well as a great way to stay connected with the arts scene in Minnesota. I was also named first runner up and overall talent winner at the Miss Minnesota 2016 pageant and currently, I am in the process of collaborating with other interdisciplinary programs at BGSU to create music and art installations as well as working closely with a great friend of mine as I compose a song cycle for her. I am still very active as a pianist by accompanying students, studying in private lessons, and performing when I can. In other news, I attended and presented as an advocate at the national Juvenile Arthritis conference with my sister, Brenna, and have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering my spare time with such a worthy organization.

However, my opportunities at both Concordia College in Moorhead and Bowling Green State University would not have been possible without Classical MPR's Minnesota Varsity. Being selected as a Featured Artist gave me access to generous music scholarships and financial support provided by Concordia College, so thank you so very much to MPR for helping make my dreams as a freelance composer come true, as well as providing young artists like myself the opportunity to perform and record with a professional organization. I cannot stress enough how special and truly unique this program really is. For those who are considering entering or know of a student who would thrive as a Featured Artist, explore this web page for more information!
