Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.
The Lakes Area Music Festival started small with just a handful of concerts in 2009. Eight years later, it's grown into an incredible three-week-long celebration of classical music, with opportunities for residents and visitors to experience educational discussions, open rehearsals, and world-class performances by musicians from regional and national ensembles.
This year, concert-goers can look forward to Benjamin Britten's opera A Midsummer Night's Dream, Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun with the St Paul Ballet, beloved classics by Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, and a wide-ranging series of concerts around the themes of night and dreams. The 2016 Lakes Area Music Festival takes place from July 31 to Aug. 21, and Classical MPR's John Birge will host pre-concert interviews before A Midsummer Night's Dream on Aug. 13 and 14.
We'll look forward to the festival beginning this weekend on this week's Morning Glories, with five outstanding performances from the 2015 Lakes Area Music Festival.
