Moveable Feast: Boom Island

Moveable Feast: Boom Island

Things are happening this summer at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis!

This weekend 10,000 people descend for Rock the Garden. For the Fourth of July, Boom Island lives up to its name with the Minnesota Orchestra playing the 1812 Overture followed by fireworks.

No matter what brings you to Boom Island, there are lots of nearby food options for both a carry-out picnic or a sit-down meal.

Here are some favorite spots in Nordeast:

• Pick up picnic fare at Surdyk's, amazing bread, cheese, meat, including house-made paté, duck confit.
• Brasa is a longtime fave for takeout.
• Pizzas are very portable, and there's both Punch or Pizza Nea on East Hennepin.
• For sit-down, Aster Cafe has the prettiest brick patio, with lots of nice shade trees.
• Masu has great sushi and cocktails and sidewalk seats.
• And if the weather is lousy, you can always go to Elsie's and bowl a few games.
