We're approaching the first day of summer, and that means ... it's brunch season!

For whatever reason — church? parenting? yard work? — Minnesotans have been slow to embrace the glorious indulgence that is brunch. Decadent food, good conversation — what could be better?

Some of our best new restaurants are treating their brunches as seriously as their dinners, with fantastic results.

Best classic dishes? The tender, fluffy pancakes with black-walnut butter at the Kenwood, and the flaky biscuits and rich gravy at Sun Street Breads.

Fancy special-occasion brunch? Burch does morning steaks, a great crab toast. At Spoon & Stable, they have a beautiful pastry bar with a dozen savory or sweet pastries.

Best buffet? Coup d'état has surprisingly classy all-you-can-eat brunch with a lot of variety — gumbo, brisket, mini-desserts — and attention to detail for $20/person, not including beverages.
