Moveable Feast: City of Gold

Moveable Feast: City of Gold

City of Gold is a film documentary about the life and research/writing process of Pulitzer Prize-winning Los Angeles restaurant critic Jonathan Gold.

He goes deep: driving thousands of miles in an old green pickup to every dumpy strip mall in every corner of the city to find the gems — he once went back 17 times before feeling comfortable reviewing a restaurant!

He excels in highlighting food from international immigrants: this older, Caucasian man with long graying hair comes in to a Thai place and eats the spiciest soup they make, and has a deep knowledge of every ingredient that goes into it, deconstructing why it tastes so delicious.
