Flicks in Five: Some Like It Hot

Austrian-born American director Billy Wilder was one of only five people to have won Academy Awards as producer, director and screenwriter for the same film — The Apartment, starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine.

Another big hit of Billy Wilder's that involved Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Marilyn Monroe, was the 1958 comedy Some Like It Hot. Set in 1929, Chicago, the story focuses on a jazz saxophone player (Tony Curtis) and a very sensible bass player (Jack Lemmon). They witness a murder and the gangsters led by "Spats" Colombo spot them, forcing them to run for their lives.

The comedy twist is that they have to run for their lives dressed as women, playing in an all-female orchestra.

One of the great moments in the movie is when Jack Lemmon, dressed as Daphne, has to tango with Joe E. Brown. On this week's Flicks in Five we'll hear the music they dance to — La Cubercita.
