Moveable Feast: Valentine's Day

Moveable Feast: Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day, being such a commercial holiday, has become an excuse for going over-the-top. You're expected to impress your sweetie with a giant bouquet of red roses or a big diamond rock.

For foodies, Minnesota Monthly recently rounded up some of the best culinary splurges in the metro. If you're cooking: find Kobe-style steak (it has to be from Kobe, Japan to bear the name) at Kowalski's, or hit up Coastal Seafoods for bluefin tuna or Persian caviar.

You're probably too late to book a full meal at an A-list restaurant, but you might be able to get in somewhere for a drink or dessert — but they'd better be pretty impressive to make up for the fact that you were too late to book dinner there!

In that case, go for the $24 brownie sundae at Manny's: it's nearly the size of a car battery, covered in caramel and hot fudge. Or if she loves scotch, the St. Paul Grill serves a rare single-malt Macallan 55 — for $750 an ounce.
