If you're the kind of person who just can't wait for that morning cup of coffee — and if, by "coffee," you mostly mean "caffeine," a new toothpaste just might be for you.
Power Toothpaste is, according to inventor Ian Nappier, "the world's first energy toothpaste." Every dose carries a jolt of caffeine — about a coffee cup's worth — that's absorbed directly through your gums as you brush. Sound a little creepy? Maybe, but that's science for you.
"You'll feel it in ten seconds," promises the Indiegogo campaign for Power Toothpaste, which has as of this writing raised over $9,000 towards a goal of $42,500 to fund a full production run. Contributors to the campaign are eligible to receive toothbrushes, t-shirts, name plaques, and, of course, toothpaste.
One asterisk: as Business Insider notes, Power Toothpaste is "classified as a 'cosmetic' product — which means it's not fluoridated. This means it doesn't have the same tooth decay-preventing properties as 'medical' toothpastes, but is otherwise effective at dealing with plaque, [CEO Dan] Merepol says."
The Power Toothpaste people think that the added incentive of a caffeine buzz will encourage people to brush their teeth more often. "Our mission is to turn oral care into something people can get excited about," they write on their Indiegogo page.
Combine Power Toothpaste with, say, a Star Wars electric toothbrush, and it just might be more excitement than your mouth can take.
